Abstract

This paper presents the methodological choices and ways of proceeding during the research “Creation of a Network on Early Childhood Education: evaluation of educational contexts”, which took place in Brazil between 2013 and 2015. The present research intends to discuss the potentiality of the instruments and theoretical-methodological guidelines from the Italian experience on evaluation of educational contexts. Within this framework, it was carried a qualitative research to analyze two instruments of evaluation of educational contexts formulated by a research group at the University of Pavia. These evaluation tools cover several topics concerning early childhood education services, the first of them is ISQUEN (Indicatori e Scala della Qualità Educativa del Nido – Indicators and Rating Scale of the Educational Quality of Nursery Schools); and the second is AVSI (Autovalutazione della Scuola dell’Infanzia – Self-evaluation of Day Care Services). This paper emphasizes the field research experience of evaluation of educational contexts, precisely the methodological procedures carried by the research groups as well as the possibilities of reflection about the results. Therefore, the text is divided into two parts: initially it presents the methodological choices made for the achievement and development of the field research in four multi-field institutions, located in four Brazilian capitals, and finally it ponders over elements resulting from the research, such as the impacts of a reflective and participative research.
